Minutes of The Supreme Council Meeting

February 26, 2001

Present (online): Grand President Paul Lindner, Grand Vice President Keith Hileman, Executive Secretary Derek Troy, Western Province Councilor Kevin Oldknow, Treasurer Ed Hurst, Central Province Counselor Chris Guam, Eastern Province Councilor Mike Votaw, Merchandising Chairman Mike Stelzner, Vancouver Alumni Edmund Gin, Vancouver Alumni Don Nash, Western Province Secretary John Tighi (late)

CALL TO ORDER: Grand President Lindner called the Supreme Council to order at 6:08 PM PST on February 26, 2001 on the Internet, in the #Sigmaphidelta chat-room of the DalNet Internet Relay Chat network. Six members of the Supreme Council were present, and thus a virtual quorum was present.

  1. NATIONAL DIRECTOR POSITION: The STAR has been sent out with the application. Paul will be sending an email to the entire Fraternity about the position. We have received three applications so far. March 18th the selection committee of Paul Lindner, Kevin Oldknow and Derek Troy will to select candidates for interview in Chicago April 7.
  2. SUPREME COUNCIL MEETING: Meeting in Chicago on April 7, Fly in on Friday, out on Sunday. Mike Votaw will be taking care of rooms. Saturday meeting starts at 9:00 AM.
  3. THE STAR: Is in the mail.
  4. INTERNSHIP: Motion to award Dan Huber and Jeremy Vandenhouten a scholarship/internship for March 1 to September 1. Derek Troy will send out announcements. Dan will work with Keith Hileman and Jeremy will work with Derek Troy and Paul Lindner
  5. ONLINE FORMS: No recent word from Keith Daegle about the online forms project. No internship application was received from Keith Daegle.
  6. NEXT YEARS BUDGET: Will be worked out at the Meeting in Chicago.
  7. CHAPTER VISIT SCHEDULE: Paul visited Delta on February 4-5, 2001, report will be issued soon. Paul will visit Chi (March), Phi(May), Theta(March) this semester Mike will visit Psi and Omega in February
  8. CONVENTIONS: We will discuss the convention schedule and budget at the March 3rd SC meeting. Derek Troy is working on the Convention letter to be sent out to all Chapters shortly.
  9. NATIONAL OFFICE RECRUITMENT: There is a big push in the Star for new National Officers. Convention will be on July 19-21. Province counselors form the committee with Mike as the chairman. All SC positions are up for election, except Exec Sec which is appointed. Kevin Oldknow will be recruiting from the Western Province for applicants.
  10. CENTRAL PROVINCE COUNCILOR: Chris Perez has announced his resignation, He will be moving back to Guam and will not be able to continue as CPC. He has been a great help to the Fraternity. Mike Stelzner was appointed and approved to take over as CPC.
  11. WESTERN DEPUTY PROVINCE COUNCILOR FOR EXPANSION: Don Nash is recommended and appointed to the position of WDPCE.
  12. NDSU: NDSU has proposed that all Fraternities on Campus go dry. Epsilons Chief contacted me about this. I gave him some advice on working with the University. As a Fraternity, we neither endorse or condemn the drinking of alcohol by legal age members. It is not a part of our Object, Code of Ethics or purpose as a Fraternity.
  13. ACCIDENT: Credit Card does not cover SUV's. Keith is working with them to try to get things worked out.
  14. EFFICIENCY CONTEST: Efficiency contest forms are due to Keith Hileman by March 1st.

  16. EXPANSION: Epsilon followed up with University of North Dakota. Group seems motivated. University of Saskatchewan, just lifted ban on fraternities, good chance of colonizing. Got a hit from Virginia Commonwealth University, Theta Tau established a chapter in 2000, but 18-23 men are interested in SPD.

  18. CONVENTION: Convention planning is ongoing. Keeping expenses to a minimum. Banquet to be held at the Auburn Cord Duesenburg Museum. Closest airports are Ft. Wayne, or South Bend. Still looking at rooms and other features.
  19. OTHER: Derek and Michelle Troy are expecting a child in August.
  20. Next meeting is April 7, 2001 in Chicago, Details to follow.
